Free global pro bono legal service comes to Scotland- TrustLaw

A free global pro bono legal service is expanding to Scotland through the collaboration with Legal firm CMS and Inspiring Scotland.

TrustLaw is the Thomson Reuters Foundation’s global pro bono legal programme which connects high-impact NGOs and social enterprises with the best law firms and corporate legal teams to provide them with free legal assistance.

Sarah Farrelly, Legal Officer, TrustLaw said: TrustLaw was created to spread the practice of pro bono to drive social change, and we are eager to continue engaging with our community in Scotland. We believe there is strong potential for growth for TrustLaw in Scotland as we understand that pro bono legal services are becoming an increasingly important focus for law firms here, coupled with a great Scottish history of a thriving third sector.”

Chris Rae, Partner, CMS commented:“We are extremely proud to support NGOs like Inspiring Scotland across Scotland, the UK, and globally through CMS’s well established pro bono programme. Through our membership of TrustLaw, CMS is able to respond to the specific needs and priorities of NGOs as they arise in different jurisdictions. We have noticed that the needs of NGOs in Scotland rarely feature in the regular TrustLaw circulars, which suggests that few NGOs are currently aware of how to make the most of that network. We are therefore delighted to support and sponsor this event to help promote and educate the NGO community in Scotland on this unique way to secure high quality pro bono advice through TrustLaw.”

Elaine Crichton, Pro Bono Executive at Inspiring Scotland:  “Through our existing pro bono partnership with CMS we have been able to offer a wide range of high quality legal support which is both greatly valued and in high demand by our charities.  However, this fantastic new partnership with TrustLaw will open up a new global network of legal expertise to Scottish charities ensuring we are able to respond to their ongoing specific needs. ”
