Leith, Edinburgh (Bethany Christian Trust) - Inspiring Scotland

Link Up

Leith, Edinburgh (Bethany Christian Trust)

The Link Up host in Leith is Bethany Christian Trust. Ian, the local Link Up Worker started with Bethany in January 2012.

Leith lies to the north of Edinburgh, and although now part of Edinburgh, it was once the most important port in Scotland and a borough in its own right. This history still shapes and influences today – home of The Proclaimers, Irvine Welsh, Sir Tom Farmer and Hibernian FC along with a new creative community Leith is the arty, edgy side of the city. Leith has suffered with the loss of its heavy industries and faced other struggles. However recent regeneration has helped make the area much more mixed and there are many people wanting to be active in the community. A strong sense of local identity with a host of local amenities and facilities means Leith is ideal for seeing the local community generate new ideas and bring about local transformation.
