The Healthy Islands Fund (HIF) is a ÂŁ1.3 million investment from the Scottish Government to further support improvement of outcomes for island communities in Scotland. Funding will contribute to delivery of Strategic Objective 7 of the National Islands Plan, which aims to improve and promote health, social care and wellbeing for those living in Scottish island communities.
The Fund supports community-led initiatives that promote healthier lifestyles on the islands. The three aims of the Fund are:
The 56 successful Healthy Island Fund Projects delivered on 35 islands will support island communities to engage in healthy lifestyle choices and in turn support their physical and mental wellbeing. Â The Healthy Islands Fund supports the aims and outcomes of the National Islands Plan and builds on the work of the Scottish Governmentâ€™s Island Communities Fund.
They will contribute to Scotlandâ€™s fair and just transition to net zero, to climate-resilient living on islands, and to a broad range of Scottish Government policies, through inclusive growth and Community Wealth Building approaches.Â Â The projects are incredibly diverse: from multi-generational activities, accessible walkways, promotion & participation in outdoor activities, locally grown produce and mental wellness.
