CashBack for Communities

Investing in Scotland’s young people.

Scottish Government’s CashBack for Communities programme tackles Scotland’s inequalities by raising the attainment, ambition and aspirations of disadvantaged young people.

Part of a better Scotland.

CashBack for Communities is a unique Scottish Government programme which takes funds recovered from criminals under the Proceeds of Crime Act (POCA) and uses them in a positive way – to expand young people’s horizons and increase the opportunities they have to develop their interests and skills.  The programme has strong links to the Scottish Government’s Justice Vision.

Since 2008, £110 million has been committed to community initiatives to improve the quality of life of young people right across Scotland. Over 2.5 million activities and opportunities for young people have been delivered so far.

Phase 5 of CashBack of Communities runs from 1 April 2020 to 31 March 2023 and supports projects that provide a range of activities for young people between the ages of 10-24 which:

  • Support people, families and communities most affected by crime
  • Support those most at risk of being involved in antisocial behaviour, offending or reoffending into positive destinations
  • Support young people most at risk of entering the justice system

Additionally, provide activities, which are not limited by age, which meet the above and;

  • Provides intergenerational support for parents, families and children impacted by Adverse Childhood Experiences

24 CashBack Partner organisations deliver a variety of activities which range from diversionary youth work to more long-term potentially life-changing intervention projects which turn young people’s lives around and provide them the opportunity of getting into employment, education or volunteering.
