Ewan's Story
Murton Wildlife Trust - Angus

Ewan started attending Murton during his third year at school, aged 14. He was unmotivated, disengaged and had poor attendance. Ewan had a dream of being a Gamekeeper and could see no point in continuing to attend school.

With the possibility that Ewan would leave school with no qualifications and little hope of finding a job, Murton and the school began to work in partnership to help Ewan realise his dream of becoming a Gamekeeper.

Murton offered Ewan the opportunity to complete SQA qualifications in subjects he was interested in to enhance his chance of getting into college to train as a Gamekeeper.

Ewan excelled at Murton, showing dedication and enthusiasm and quickly working his way through the courses and qualifications. He understood that to continue at Murton and to get into college, he would have to attend school. His attendance quickly improved and he caught up with work in all of the subjects he was studying.

After two years at Murton, Ewan was given a place at college, starting in 2011, and secured a job on the local estate. By working in partnership, Murton and the school were able to tailor his education needs, ensuring the best possible chance of success in his future and enabling Ewan to live his dream.
